Learn how to enable and customize the Add to Wallet feature so customers can save their Loyalty QR codes to Google Wallet.

Written by Simon Akhrameev

Overview

The Add to Wallet feature enhances your in-store shopping experience by allowing customers to save their Loyalty QR code directly to their mobile wallet. This makes it faster and easier for them to access their loyalty pass at checkout, helping to boost engagement with your Rewards program.

πŸš€ Feature availability

The Add to Wallet and Loyalty QR features are available starting from the Growth plan.

Key benefits

  • Convenience: Customers can access their Loyalty QR code without needing to log in to your store every time.

  • Faster checkout: Speeds up the scanning process at physical retail locations.

  • Brand visibility: Keeps your store's branding present in your customers' digital wallets.

How to setup Add to Wallet

You can enable and customize the Add to Wallet feature and wallet pass design directly from the Onsite widgets menu.

Growave - Onsite widgets - Loyalty QR and Wallet
  1. In the Growave admin panel, navigate to Onsite widgets β†’ Rewards.

  2. Locate the Loyalty QR & Wallet card and click Configure.

  3. In the Loyalty QR & Wallet settings modal, under Display in Rewards widgets, check the box for Show loyalty code. Once checked, the Include "Add to Wallet" button box can also be enabled.

  4. Select your preferred Loyalty code format (QR code or Barcode).

  5. Customize the visual appearance of your pass:

    • Wallet pass fill color: Choose the background color for your pass. By default, this copies the secondary color from Branding β†’ Rewards.

    • Wallet pass text color: Select the color for the text on the pass.

    • Wallet pass name: Enter the name that will appear on the pass (e.g., "WanderWay Rewards Program").

    • Wallet logo: Upload your brand icon. If you leave the default icon, Google will use the first letter of the customer's name as the logo.

    • Wallet banner image: Upload a custom banner image (max 5 MB, PNG or JPEG). Recommended size: 1032x336 px (Google Wallet).

βœ… Tip

You can also enable or disable these features by navigating to Rewards β†’ Settings β†’ Loyalty QR and Wallet and selecting the Enable Loyalty QR and Enable "Add to Wallet" button checkboxes. Changes made in either section are automatically synced.

What the wallet pass includes

When a customer saves the pass to their Google Wallet, it dynamically generates a personalized digital card.

Wallet pass in Google Wallet generated based on the Growave data

Here is a breakdown of the information displayed:

  • Shop name: Automatically pulled from your general Shopify account settings.

  • Wallet pass name: The custom name you defined in the Growave configuration settings.

  • Customer name: The first and last name of the loyalty program member. If the name is missing from their profile, the system will automatically use a masked email address for privacy.

  • Points: The customer's current available loyalty points balance. Points expiration date (if expiration is enabled) is not displayed on the pass. If the Points program is disabled in Growave, this field will be hidden.

  • Tier: The customer's current VIP tier level. If the program is enabled but the customer hasn't reached a tier yet, it will display "No tier." If the VIP Tiers program is disabled, this slot will remain empty. (Note: The points, tier, and tier name fields support multi-language translation where applicable).

  • Loyalty code: The scannable 2D QR code or 1D barcode used at your physical checkout.

  • Wallet logo & Banner image: The custom branding graphics you uploaded during setup.

Where customer can find the Add to Wallet button

The Add to Wallet button appears on Android mobile devices under the QR code in the following locations:

Growave - Rewards pop-up widget- Loyalty QR - Add to Wallet
  • Rewards page: Inside the Loyalty info widget's Loyalty QR modal (if you install this widget in the Rewards page).

Growave - Rewards page - Loyalty QR - Add to Wallet
  • Loyalty info widget: Inside the Loyalty QR modal (if you install Loyalty info widget on other storefront page).

⚠️ Important

The Add to Wallet feature is not supported within the Loyalty info extension. If you are using the Loyalty info extension on customer account pages, the wallet icon will not appear.

Limitations

Please be aware of the following technical details regarding how the wallet pass displays and functions:

  • Google Wallet support: Currently, the Add to Wallet feature only supports Google Wallet. Apple Wallet is not supported at this time and is planned for future updates.

  • Admin preview differences: The preview in the Wallet configuration modal is designed to provide a general understanding of the layout. When downloaded to Google Wallet, the Wallet banner image will be displayed at the bottom of the pass, not the top.

  • Text color: While the configuration modal allows you to select a Wallet pass text color, Google Wallet automatically manages text color for accessibility and may ignore this setting.

FAQs

What happens to customer passes if I disable the loyalty program or downgrade my plan?

Customer passes are not deleted or invalidated. Instead, the system will automatically remove the dynamic blocks (Points and VIP Tiers) from previously issued passes, leaving only the QR code and the customer's name visible. If you re-enable the programs or upgrade your plan, the full data on the customers' passes will automatically update and become visible again.

Can a customer share their wallet pass with someone else?

Yes. Currently, there are no restrictions preventing a customer from sharing their downloaded pass. A single Google account can store passes from multiple email addresses, and the same pass can be saved to multiple different Google accounts. Note: Because these are standard loyalty passes, Google Wallet natively supports and allows this unrestricted sharing behavior.

Can a customer use their wallet pass on multiple devices?

Yes. If a customer adds their pass to multiple devices, their loyalty points balance and VIP tier status will automatically sync and update across all devices.

How can a customer remove their wallet pass?

Customers can only remove their pass directly through their Google Wallet app interface. It is not possible for them to delete the pass from their customer account page on your storefront.

Why doesn't the text color match my configuration?

Google Wallet enforces its own readability standards. Even if you set a specific hex code for the text color in the Growave admin, Google Wallet may override it to ensure the text remains legible against your chosen Fill color.
