Overview
Growave offers a comprehensive Language editor that allows you to customize default English phrases and add translations for multiple languages across the platform. Additionally, you can separately update automatically translated email notifications using the email editor and manually add translations for the Ways to earn, Ways to redeem, VIP tiers, Referral rewards, and Nudges. These features make it easy to adapt Growave to your brand’s voice and meet the language preferences of your customers.
Add languages in Shopify admin
Growave pulls its list of available languages directly from your Shopify store. Before you can translate or modify content in Growave, you need to add the language in Shopify admin first. There are three steps: add the language, translate its content, and turn on a storefront language selector so shoppers can switch.
📘 Note: Shopify supports up to 20 languages per store (Basic plan or higher, on a theme that supports multiple languages).
Step 1 — Add a language in Shopify admin
Go to Shopify admin → Settings → Languages.
Click Add language.
Choose a language from the dropdown.
Confirm the language:
If your store uses a single market (no international domains): select Add.
If your store uses multiple markets with international domains: select Next, toggle on the markets that should offer this language, then select Done.
The new language is added in an unpublished state — customers can't see it yet. You'll publish it in Step 2 after its content is translated.
Step 2 – Translate or auto-translate content
After you add a language, translate its content using Shopify's Translate & Adapt app. This app installs automatically when you add your first language.
Go to Apps → Translate & Adapt in your Shopify admin and select the language you added.
Choose how to translate:
Auto-translate (free for up to 2 languages): Select the language, select Auto-translate, then click Translate. Shopify translates all untranslated content and leaves any translations you edited manually untouched. New content isn't translated automatically later — return and select Auto-translate again after you add products or pages.
Manual translation: Select a resource (for example, a product or collection), enter your translation in each field, and select Save.
To make the language visible to shoppers, go to Settings → Languages.
Find the language under Not published status.
Select the three-dots menu icon next to it, select Publish, and select Save. Publishing can take a few minutes depending on how much content your store has.
Step 3 – Enable storefront language selection
To let customers choose their language on your storefront, add a language selector to your theme:
Go to Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → click Edit theme.
Open the Header or Footer section (placement depends on your theme).
Toggle on the Language selector. If you also sell across regions, toggle on the Country/region selector as well.
Click Save.
📘 Note: Most Shopify themes include these selectors built in. If yours doesn't, you can add one with a third-party app from the Shopify App Store.
Once the language is changed, Growave widgets will automatically display in the selected language.
Use Growave Language editor
The Growave Language editor lets you translate storefront phrases and adjust default wording to better match your brand voice. Most text shown to website visitors, including Growave widget labels, buttons, and messages, can be modified here.
How to access the Language editor
Go to Growave admin → Branding → Languages.
Select the desired language from the dropdown (must be added first in Shopify → Settings → Languages).
Use the tabs and search bar to locate the text:
Browse by app section (Rewards, Review, Wishlist, etc.)
Search by keyword (e.g., “Add to Wishlist” or “Your balance”)
What you can edit using the Language editor
Editable fields include:
Widget buttons and labels (e.g., “Add to Wishlist”, “Earn points”)
Pop-up modals and calls to action (e.g., “Join now”, “Write a review”)
Empty state and confirmation messages
Global phrases (e.g., “Checkout”, “Back”, “Sold out”)
Text related to extensions like cart selectors or post-purchase banners
Notification-related display messages (not the email content itself, see details below).
⚠️ Important
Do not edit or translate variables such as
{{points_name}},{{customer_name}}, or{{shop_name}}. These dynamic tags must remain exactly as they are to function correctly. The Language editor does not support saving empty fields or space characters for UI labels. If you clear a field or attempt to save it with only spaces, the system will prevent the save. If you want to hide a specific label, title, or button text, this can be handled via custom CSS. Please contact our support team at [email protected] or via live chat and ask to escalate your request to a human agent. Our technical specialists will be happy to apply the necessary CSS adjustment to hide the text for you.
How Growave determines the notifications language
Growave sets each customer's locale from the language recorded on their Shopify orders. This ensures that your customers receive their automated communications in the language they are most comfortable with.
Growave dynamically updates the notification language based on the customer's checkout history:
Before the first order: Growave has no language stored for the customer. Therefore, Growave sends notifications that aren't tied to an order in your store's default language.
After the first order: Once the customer places their first order, Shopify passes the order's language (the store version they checked out on), and Growave saves it. Growave notifications then use that language from that point on.
Subsequent orders: When the customer places another order in a different store language, this value is replaced with the new one. Notifications are then sent in the new language from that last order.
⚠️ Important
For a customer to receive notifications in a specific language, they need to place an order on that language version of your store.
How to edit translation of Growave notifications
Growave's email notifications support multiple languages, so you can communicate with customers in their preferred language. When you add a language in Shopify, Growave's notification templates become available in that language automatically, already translated — you don't need to translate them from scratch. You can still edit any template to fine-tune the wording to your brand voice, as shown below.
Step 1 – Add the language in Shopify
Before editing notification translations in Growave, ensure the language is active on your store.
Navigate to Shopify admin → Settings → Languages.
Make sure the language you want to use is added.
Step 2 – Edit translation of each notification in Growave
Once the language is added, you can edit Growave’s email notifications in the following sections:
Each template includes a language selector in the top section of the editor. Select the language you want to translate and update the fields accordingly.
How to edit translation of a notification (example: Rewards)
Go to Rewards → Notifications.
Click a notification title (e.g., Points earned) to open the editor.
In the Email language dropdown, select the language you want to edit.
Update the automatically translated email content. Depending on the template, you can customize the following fields:
Subject
Title
Body
Reward message
Button label
Content below button
Footer content
Click Save
⚠️ Important
When opening or refreshing the editor page, the default English version always loads first, regardless of your previously selected language. Make sure to select the correct language before editing.
Growave content you translate yourself
Titles and descriptions for Ways to earn, Ways to redeem, VIP tiers, Referral rewards, and Nudges are not translated automatically. Add these translations yourself after adding the language in Shopify.
