Set up automated review request emails in Growave

Automatically collect customer feedback with customizable email requests.

Overview

The Reviews app can automatically send review request emails after an order is completed. You can configure templates, adjust timing, add rewards, and request reviews on third-party platforms in the ReviewsNotifications section of the Growave admin panel.

Review request conditions

All of the following settings are located under Reviews → Settings → Review request rules. Emails are sent taking into account the following conditions:

  • Choose who receives review request emails — you can choose to send requests to all customers or only to those who opted in for marketing emails.

  • Collect only verified reviews:

    • If disabled, requests are only sent when the customer hasn’t reviewed the product before.

    • If enabled:

      • Allow reviews with each purchase → verified buyers can leave a new review every time they repurchase the same product; requests are sent for each new purchase.

      • Limit reviews per product → set the maximum number of reviews per customer per product; requests are sent according to this limit.

  • Send review requests based on order status — emails are sent when the order reaches the status you selected (Paid, Fulfilled, or Delivered).

  • Send review requests for orders made viaOnline store, Point of sale, or both. By default, both are selected if your shop has an Online store and uses Shopify POS. At least one channel must be selected. Requests are sent only for orders placed through the selected channels.

  • Exclude products from review requests — requests will not be sent for excluded tagged products.


How to set up review request notifications

  1. In the Growave admin panel, go to ReviewsNotifications.

  2. Enable the 1st review request email and optional 2nd and 3rd reminders.

    • If the 1st request is disabled, reminders will also be turned off.

    • You can set the interval between reminders.

    • The campaign stops once the customer submits a review.

  3. Click a notification title to open the editor and adjust its settings:

Main settings

  • Email language: Create multiple localized versions of the email. Messages are sent based on the customer’s locale property.

  • General review request delay: Define when the email is sent, in days after the order reaches the selected status.

    Triggering order status: In Reviews → Settings → Review request rules, choose which order status (Fulfilled, Paid, or Delivered) should start the countdown.

  • Set a separate delay for POS orders: Apply a different delay for in-store orders placed via Shopify POS.

  • Set a separate delay for domestic orders: Enable a custom delay for domestic shipments, based on your Domestic country selection.

📘 Note

Your store’s default country is applied automatically. If it doesn’t appear in the list, update your shipping zones in Shopify.

Email content

  • Banner image: Upload a header image (up to 600×600 px, max 3 MB, JPG/PNG).

  • Subject: Personalize the subject line with Liquid variables such as {{customer_name}} or {{order_number}}.

  • Body: Customize the message to reflect your brand’s tone and encourage reviews.

  • Button: Set the call-to-action button text (e.g., Write a review).

Reward settings

  • Reward message: Show a personalized message that highlights the reward a customer will receive for leaving a review. The reward is pulled from the Leave a review earning rule under Rewards → Points → Ways to earn.

Ask for reviews on third-party platforms

  • Section title in email: Customize the heading for this section (e.g., Leave us a review on other platforms).

  • URL: Add the link to an external review platform (e.g., Google, Trustpilot).

  • Button text: Define the call-to-action button label.

After adding link and button text, click Save to see them appear in the preview panel on the right.

In the Email content editor, click Send test email, enter your address, and check how the review request looks in your inbox.

What customers see

When customers receive a review request email:

  • The email can include up to 5 products from their order, each with a Write a review button.

  • Clicking the button takes them back to your store, where the Reviews popup opens automatically.

  • After leaving a review for one product, the popup will prompt them to review the remaining items from the order.

This flow helps you collect feedback on multiple products at once and boosts overall review volume.

Important notes on integrations

  • For Omnisend and Attentive integration, review request templates will send emails with only the most expensive product from the order.

  • If you use Klaviyo integration with HTML templates (automatically added to the templates list upon initial integration), the review request email will include only the most expensive product from the customer's order.

  • Use Hybrid templates with List or Grid layout options to send up to 5 products from the order in the review request.


Track performance

At the top of the Reviews Notifications page, you can see performance metrics for the last 30 days. This helps you measure open rates and the effectiveness of your review request campaigns.

Advanced settings

Set up custom email domain for notifications

In Growave admin, go to Settings → General → Custom email domain to set and verify your sending address.

Exclude customers from review request emails

If you have a customer who doesn't want to receive review request emails, or you simply don't want to send requests to certain customers, you can add the disable-growave-review-request tag to their profile.

Once you add the tag, contact our support team so we can verify and adjust the settings on our end to ensure the user is excluded from receiving review request emails.

To add the tag to a user from the Customers section in your Shopify admin:

Exclude products from review request emails

If you do not want to send review request emails for specific products, you can exclude them in the ReviewsSettingsGeneral tabReview request rules → Exclude products from review requests. Add exclusion tags here.

Also, add the same tag in the Shopify admin:

  • Go to Products.

  • Choose the product you want to exclude.

  • Add the exclusion tag under Tags in the Product organization sidebar.
