Using Gift card and Store credit rewards on Shopify POS

Learn how to configure Shopify POS to accept Gift cards and Store credit, and guide customers on how to redeem and apply these rewards.

Overview

Currently, Gift card rewards are not available for redemption directly through the Growave tile on Shopify POS. Store credit, however, can be redeemed directly through this tile. Please note that neither Gift card nor Store credit can be automatically applied to a cart using the Growave Redeem reward tile.

Nevertheless, customers can still use these rewards at your retail locations by redeeming Gift cards in your online store, redeeming Store credit at your physical shop, and applying them as payment methods via Shopify POS device.

You must enable native Gift cards and Store credit in your Shopify POS settings for this workaround to function.


How to configure Shopify POS

To allow customers to apply their existing Store credit or Gift cards at checkout, you need to activate these payment options within your Shopify Admin panel.

  1. Navigate to the Point of Sale channel in your Shopify admin.

  2. Click on Settings.

  3. Select Payments and open Payment methods and options.

  4. Under the Additional payment methods section, toggle on both Gift Card and Store Credit.

How customers redeem and apply rewards

Because these rewards cannot be automatically applied to the cart via the Growave tile, customers and cashiers must follow a specific process:

Step 1: Redeem points for the reward

  • For Store credit: The cashier can redeem the customer's points for Store credit directly through the Growave 'Redeem rewards' tile in Shopify POS.

  • For Gift cards: Customers must still exchange their points for the Gift card via your Online store (by logging in and opening the Rewards pop-up widget or dedicated Rewards page)."

Step 2: Apply the reward at the POS

Once the reward is redeemed online, the customer can present their Gift card code to the cashier or ask them to apply their available Store credit. Both rewards are applied during the final checkout step.

  • For Store credit: The cashier must tap Checkout, select Store credit as the payment method at the payment screen, and the customer's full available balance will be applied automatically.

  • For Gift cards: The cashier must tap Checkout, select Gift card as the payment method at the payment screen, and enter the customer's code.

The customer can find their Gift card code in the Available rewards section of the Rewards page, the View your rewards section of the Rewards pop-up widget, or in the automated email sent by Shopify.
