Using Gift card and Store credit rewards on Shopify POS

Learn how to configure Shopify POS to accept Gift cards and Store credit, and guide customers on how to redeem and apply these rewards.

Overview

Currently, Gift Card and Store Credit rewards are not available for redemption directly through the Growave tile on Shopify POS. Additionally, these specific rewards cannot be applied to a cart using the Growave Redeem reward tile.

However, customers can still use these rewards at your retail locations by redeeming their points online and applying the native codes at the POS checkout.

You must enable native Gift cards and Store credit in your Shopify POS settings for this workaround to function.


How to configure Shopify POS

To allow customers to apply their existing Store credit or Gift cards at checkout, you need to activate these payment options within your Shopify Admin panel.

  1. Navigate to the Point of Sale channel in your Shopify admin.

  2. Click on Settings.

  3. Select Payments and open Payment methods and options.

  4. Under the Additional payment methods section, toggle on both Gift Card and Store Credit.

How customers redeem and apply rewards

Because these rewards cannot be redeemed via Growave's 'Redeem reward' tile in Shopify POS, customers must follow a two-step workaround process.

Step 1: Redeem points online

Customers must first exchange their points for the reward via your Online store.

Step 2: Apply the reward at the POS

Once the reward is redeemed online, the customer can present their Gift card code to the cashier or ask them to apply their available Store credit. Both rewards are applied during the final checkout step.

  • Store Credit: The cashier must tap Checkout, select Store credit as the payment method at the payment screen, and the customer's full available balance will be applied automatically.

  • Gift Cards: The cashier must tap Checkout, select Gift card as the payment method at the payment screen, and enter the customer's code.

The customer can find their Gift card code in the Available rewards section of the Rewards page, the View your rewards section of the Rewards pop-up widget, or in the automated email sent by Shopify.
