🚀 Feature availability

Gift registry is available for Growave 2.0 users starting from the Growth plan.

Overview

The Gift Registry program is an advanced wishlist feature that allows logged-in customers to create, manage, and share personalized gift lists for specific occasions. This enables shoppers to turn your store into a gifting destination for events like weddings and birthdays, making it easier for friends and family to find and purchase the perfect gifts.

This article covers enabling the feature, adding the Add to Registry button, and configuring registry settings. It also explains how customers can create and manage their gift registries, and how gifters make purchases via shared links.

Key benefits / use cases

  • Registry creation: Allow shoppers to build personalized gift lists tied to specific life events directly from your store.

  • Easy sharing: Registrants can share their list via a unique link, directing family and friends to purchase from your store.

  • Gifting-driven traffic: Gift registries bring new visitors to your store — gift buyers who might not have discovered you otherwise.

How to enable the Gift Registry: Admin setup

To turn on the Gift Registry feature:

  1. In the Growave admin panel, go to WishlistSettings.

  2. Scroll to the Gift Registry status section → click Enable.

Configure Gift Registry settings

In Growave admin panel, navigate to WishlistSettings to fine-tune how the registry behaves:

  • Require address for gift registry creation: A setting that mandates customers to input a delivery address when setting up a new gift registry.

  • Gift Registry event types: A configuration that defines the available categories or themes (e.g., Birthday, Wedding) customers can select for their new registries.

  • Share Gift Registry: A setting to select which specific channels customers can use to distribute their gift registry links.

  • Orders: Displays detailed information about orders placed through gift registries (Order No, Date and time, Price, Registrant email, Gifter email, Registry ID).

Storefront experience: Registrants

To create a gift registry, customers must log in to an existing store account or sign up. If a guest user clicks the Add to Registry button on a product page, a pop-up will prompt them to sign in or create an account.

How to create a Gift Registry

When a logged-in customer clicks Add to Registry on a product page:

  • If no custom gift registry has been created yet: An item will be added to an automatically generated default registry named: {customer's first name} event.

  • If a customer already has two or more registries: A modal window will appear prompting them to select an existing registry. The customer must click the Heart icon next to the gift registry title to add the item.

⚠️ Important

If you have enabled the "Require address for gift registry creation" setting and the customer does not have an address in their Shopify account yet, the default gift registry is not created for them. Clicking the Add to Registry button will trigger the new gift registry creation form, where they must add their address.

To create a brand new registry from the Wishlist floating widget:

  1. Click the Wishlist launcher button from any page (except the dedicated Wishlist page, where the launcher is hidden). Note: On the Wishlist page, you can proceed directly to step two.

  2. Click Add a new list link.

  3. Select the Gift Registry option.

  4. Fill in the details in the Gift registry creation form and click Create wishlist.

The Gift registry creation form includes the following options:

  • Gift registry data:

    • Event type dropdown: Displays options selected in the Gift registry settings (Birthday, Wedding, Baby shower, Newborn, House warming, Christmas, Graduation, Other).

    • Event date (dd/mm/yy).

    • Registry name.

  • Registrant's information:

    • Delivery details: Country, state, postal code, city, and address (this exact address will be applied at the gifter's checkout).

    • Name: First and last name.

  • Co-registrant details (optional):

    • Name: First and last name.

📘 Note

Customers can create multiple gift registries and delete them as needed, allowing flexibility for different occasions.

Customer view and behavior

After creating a gift registry, this new registry will appear in the Wishlist floating widget and Wishlist page. Customers will see:

  • Header: The Wishlist title and a link leading directly to the Wishlist page.

  • Add a new list: A link to create new lists.

  • List display area: Displays wishlists and gift registries as clickable thumbnails with subtitles.

    • Gift registries have a small Gift icon in the bottom-left corner of the thumbnail with item counter.

    • Empty (or default) lists use placeholder thumbnail images. Lists with items added use the image of the first added product as the thumbnail.

    • The currently selected list title and Pen (edit) icon are displayed under the thumbnails. If a gift registry is selected, a green Gift registry badge will be displayed next to the list title.

    • Clicking Pen (edit) icon opens the Gift Registry editing modal where customers can change list details or delete the list.

  • Sharing block: Contains options to share the list by copying the link, via email, or social networks.

  • Sorting: Gift registries, unlike Classic wishlists, do not support item sorting.

  • Product cards: Displays the product image with three dots menu and badges, product title, average rating with review count (if the Reviews app is enabled), selected product variant (if any), and product price.

    • Three dots menu: Opens additional options:

      • Delete: Removes an item from the list.

      • Add tag: Adds a green badge with custom text overlaying the product image.

      • Move to: Moves the item to another gift registry (if more that one gift registry has been created).

    • Image badges:

      • Available (grey): Means the product has not been purchased by gifters yet.

      • Purchased (blue): Means the product has already been purchased by gifters. May include a counter (e.g., Purchased 1/3) depending on the number of items added to the gift registry.

      • Custom badge (green): Displays custom text added using the Add tag option.

  • Quantity selector: Customers can increase/decrease the number of items in the git registry.

  • Add to cart button: Turns into Show in cart for items already added to the cart.

Storefront experience: Gifters

After following the link shared gift registry link, gifters are directed to the dedicated registry page.

Buying a gift

  1. The gifter reviews the items on the registry, noting which are "Available" and which are already "Purchased."

  2. The gifter adjusts the quantity if needed and clicks the Add to cart button on the item they wish to buy.

  3. A Gift Cart Summary side drawer opens. This drawer confirms the total gift value and displays a message stating who the gifts will ship to (e.g., "Your gifts will ship to [Registrant's Name]'s address").

  4. From the drawer, the gifter can click Add More Gifts to continue browsing the registry or click Checkout.

  5. During checkout, the Delivery section is automatically pre-filled with the registrant's saved shipping details.

FAQs

How is the status of items in a gift registry updated?

When an item from the gift registry is purchased (i.e. order is marked as Paid in the Shopify admin), its status on the gift registry page will automatically update to "Purchased". The registry creator and any user with access to the shared gift registry will see this status change.

Who receives order notifications?

Order notifications are sent directly from Shopify to the gifter (the customer who made the purchase) so they can track the delivery status. If the purchaser enters the registry creator's email address at checkout instead, the registry creator will receive the Shopify order notifications.
