Customer reviews are a powerful way to build trust and showcase your products. By integrating reviews into your store, you can display real customer experiences, enhance product credibility, and increase conversions. This guide will walk you through the steps to enable and configure the Reviews app in Growave, from setting up review requests to customizing how reviews appear on your storefront.
Enable Reviews app
Navigate to the Growave admin panel β Reviews β Manage Reviews and click Launch Reviews to enable this feature for your store.
Set up Reviews email notifications
Configure review request emails and reminders to automatically send them after purchase, helping you collect valuable customer feedback and enhance your social proof. In this section, you can also track notification performance for the last 30 days with such metrics as the number of emails sent and opened, as well as the conversion rate.
π Learn more about setting up review request emails
In addition to the three review request emails, Growave offers system notifications to keep your customers informed:
Unverified review: Sends a verification email to customers who have left a review without logging in, or to guests (if posting reviews is allowed for all site users).
Replied to your question: Notifies customers when you respond to their questions.
Replied to your review: Notifies customers when you respond to their reviews.
Import existing reviews
Importing reviews is a useful way to transfer valuable feedback from past platforms or systems, helping you maintain credibility and social proof in your current store.
You can import reviews using a CSV file. In the Growave admin panel, go to the Import/Export β Reviews tab.
π For detailed instructions, refer to our guide on importing reviews

Adjust general settings
The General tab of the Reviews settings contains five sections: Reviews status, Review request rules, Moderation and display, Grouping, and Translations.
Reviews status section
This section allows you to enable or disable the Reviews app:
Review request rules section
This section allows you to manage the general review notification settings to fit your store's needs:
Choose who receives review request emails: all customers, despite their marketing email preferences, or only those who opted in for marketing emails.
Collect only verified reviews: This setting determines who is permitted to submit a review.
Enabled: Only customers who have purchased the product (verified buyers) can leave a review. Guest visitors (non-purchasers) are not allowed to post reviews.
Disabled: Both verified buyers and guest visitors can submit reviews.
Manual or automatic publishing of submitted reviews can be adjusted in the Moderation and display section (see below).
For Growave 2.0 users: When enabled, you'll also see an option to limit how many reviews a verified buyer can leave for the same product. For more details, check out this article on limiting reviews.
Send review requests based on order status: Choose when customers receive review requests depending on the order status:
Paid: Review requests are sent once the order reaches the Paid status in Shopify. This option is ideal for digital products.
Fulfilled: Review requests are sent when the order is marked as fulfilled by the merchant.
Delivered: Review requests are sent when the order's shipment status updates to Delivered.
Send review requests for orders made via:
Online store
Point of sale
If your store has both an Online store and Shopify POS, both options are selected by default. At least one channel must be selected. Review requests are sent only for orders from the selected channels.
Exclude products from review requests: By tagging certain products, you can prevent Growave from sending review request emails and collecting reviews for those items.
Get notified about reviews: Enable notifications to receive an email when a new review is submitted.
Moderation and display section
In this section, you can define how to publish and display reviews:
1. Automatically publish reviews
Control which reviews appear on your site immediately and which require manual approval using the Automatically publish reviews setting.
If disabled:
All reviews from verified buyers and guests (if allowed) will remain in a pending/unpublished status.
You must manually approve each review in Growave admin β Reviews β Manage reviews to make it visible on your store.
If enabled:
You must choose a specific star rating threshold to determine publishing behavior:
Option 1: All reviews
Verified buyers: All reviews are published immediately, regardless of the star rating.
Guest users: Reviews are published automatically only after the guest confirms their email via the link sent in the "Unverified review" notification.
Option 2: Minimum star rating
Select a threshold (e.g., 4+ stars) to apply different rules based on the rating.
Reviews meeting the threshold (e.g., 4 and 5 stars):
Verified buyers: Published immediately.
Guest users: Published automatically after email verification.
Reviews below the threshold (e.g., 1 to 3 stars):
Standard rule: Reviews are held in a pending status for up to 14 days (per Shopify's transparency rules).
Customization: You can adjust this hold period between 0β14 days. After this period expires, the reviews are published automatically.
Exception for guests: If a guest has not verified their email, their review will remain in pending status and will not auto-publish, even after the 14-day period expires.
2. Show reviews for unpublished, draft, or archived products
Reviews associated with draft, archived, or unpublished products are not displayed publicly unless a specific setting is enabled. Enabling the visibility for such reviews ensures they remain visible throughout your store's review widgets, even for products that are no longer available. To enable this feature:
Go to Reviews β Settings β Moderation and display section.
Find the "Show reviews of unpublished products" setting and enable the corresponding checkbox.
3. Display reviewer names
Choose how reviewer names and question authors are shown on your storefront. Available options include:
Full name
Shortened last name
Shortened full name
Anonymous
Allow customers to choose how to display their names.
If you select Allow customers to choose how to display their names, customers will be able to choose their preferred display format from the "Display name publicly as" dropdown menu in the Leave a review modal window.
4. Review source indicators
These indicators are displayed next to reviewer names on the storefront Reviews widgets to help ensure transparency and legal compliance.
You can choose which indicators to display:
Verified customer purchase
Verified by store owner
Imported review
Incentivized review
By default, all review source indicators are enabled, except for the Incentivized reviews.
5. Require review titles
This setting makes it mandatory for customers to add a title when submitting a review.
6. Allow review editing for customers
Enabling this option allows customers to edit reviews they have already submitted. Customers will be able to update the review title and review text, or add an image.
Allowing review editing helps ensure reviews stay accurate and reflect up-to-date customer experiences, improving trust and transparency across your storefront.
To stay informed about any review changes, make sure Get notified about reviews is enabled under the Review request rules section (see above).
β οΈ Important
As a shop owner, you cannot edit customer reviews from the Growave admin panel.
7. Choose reviews sorting
Set the default sorting order for displaying reviews on the storefront. Select one of the available options:
Most relevant
Most recent
Highest rating
Lowest rating
With photos
Most helpful.
