Adjust general settings

The General tab of the Reviews settings contains five sections: Reviews status, Review request rules, Moderation and display, Grouping, and Translations.

Reviews status section

This section allows you to enable or disable the Reviews app:

Reviews - General tab - Reviews status

Review request rules section

This section allows you to manage the general review notification settings to fit your store's needs:

Growave - review request rules

  1. Chose who receives review request emails: all customers despite their marketing email preferences only those customers who opted in for marketing emails.
  2. Collect only verified reviews: If enabled, only customers who have purchased the product can leave reviews, and the review form will remain hidden from other visitors.
    • For Growave 2.0 users: When enabled, you'll also see an option to set a limit on how many reviews a verified buyer can leave for the same product. For more details, check out this article on limiting reviews.
  1. Send review requests based on order status: Choose when customers receive review requests depending on the order status:
    1. Paid: Review requests are sent once the order reaches the Paid status in Shopify. This option is ideal for digital products.
    2. Fulfilled: Review requests are sent when the order is marked as fulfilled by the merchant.
    3. Delivered: Review requests are sent when the order's shipment status updates to Delivered.
  2. Exclude products from review requests: By tagging certain products, you can prevent Growave from sending review request emails and collecting reviews for those items.
  3. Get notified about reviews: Enable notifications to receive an email when a new review is submitted.

Moderation and display section

In this section, you can define how to publish and display reviews:

  1. Automatically publish reviews

Select which reviews to automatically publish based on their star rating.

  • If auto-publishing is disabled, all reviews will remain in pending status until manually approved.
  • If you select All reviews, all new reviews will be automatically published, regardless of rating.
  • If you select a rating threshold (e.g., auto-publish 4+ star reviews), you can set a delay for publishing reviews below the threshold (e.g., 1–3 stars).

Important

Starting July 8, 2024, Shopify requires that all new reviews below the selected rating must be automatically published after up to 14 days, even if they don’t meet your auto-publishing threshold. This only applies to reviews submitted after that date.

  1. Show reviews for unpublished products

Display reviews for unpublished products across reviews widgets, where the product's link is not clickable. This feature allows reviews to be visible for products that are no longer available in the store.

  1. Display reviewer names: Choose how to display names of reviewers and authors of questions. Options include: Full name, Shortened last name, Shortened full name, Anonymous, Allow user to choose the display format
  2. Require review titles: This setting makes it mandatory for customers to add a title when submitting a review.

Grouping and Translations sections

  • Product groups

Group similar or identical products under different Shopify product pages and share reviews across them. This helps you manage reviews more effectively when selling variations of the same product.

  • Translate product reviews (available for Growave 2.0 users)

Choose from translation services like DeepL or Google Translate to automatically translate reviews.
