As part of our commitment to improving security and aligning with Shopify’s latest account strategy, we have moved away from the Social Login feature used in Growave 1.0. This change is part of a broader transition to Growave 2.0 — our modernized platform that supports Shopify’s new passwordless customer account system.
Growave 1.0 is being phased out, and most stores have already been upgraded to Growave 2.0. The remaining merchants will be migrated soon.
Why new accounts are better
With the launch of Growave 2.0 in January 2024, we have moved from Social Login to a more secure and user-friendly customer account system. Here’s why new Shopify customer accounts offer a better experience:
Passwordless login: Customers can log in using a one-time code sent to their email. This eliminates the need for remembering passwords and simplifies the login process.
Simplified account creation: New accounts are created automatically when a customer logs in with their email address, removing the need for account invitations or manual setup.
Supports self-serve returns: Customers can request product returns directly from their account, streamlining the process and reducing the load on your customer service team.
Supports reordering: Customers can view their order history and reorder items with ease.
Enhanced B2B customer accounts (for Shopify Plus): New B2B profiles offer customized experiences for wholesale customers, including location-specific permissions and detailed order history.
Future extensibility: Shopify will soon offer UI extensions for customer accounts, allowing for additional features or custom pages tailored to your brand.
How to switch and things to consider
You can configure new customer accounts in the Customer Accounts settings of your Shopify admin:
Navigate to Settings → Customer Accounts.
Under Choose which version of customer accounts to link to, select Customer accounts.
Click the "Update" button in the pop-up window.
Before transitioning to new customer accounts, please be aware of the following:
Customizations: Apps or liquid customizations on your theme’s customer account pages will not carry over to new customer accounts, potentially impacting existing features.
Redirections: Links to legacy customer accounts will automatically redirect to new customer accounts.
Compatibility: New customer accounts do not support the International tool or pixels customer events tracker.
Multipass: This feature, which allows seamless login between the shop owner's website and their Shopify store, is not supported in the new system.
Automation: Workflow triggers or automations set up for legacy customer accounts will not function with new accounts.
Reversion: You can revert to legacy customer accounts at any time if you need to restore the previous setup.

Using third-party social login apps
You can choose any third-party social login app from the Shopify App Store to fit your needs. However, we recommend the Oxi Social Login app as we've thoroughly tested it. It provides a frictionless experience for customers — they click on their preferred social media icon and confirm authorization.
