How to reward members for reaching a VIP tier

Learn how to configure Entry rewards, perks, and points multipliers for your VIP Tiers program to incentivize customer loyalty.

Overview

The VIP Tiers program is a customer retention tool that automatically assigns shoppers to a hierarchical tier based on their activity, granting them exclusive rewards and benefits.

This article explains how to reward your members when they reach a VIP tier, including configuring Entry rewards, Perks, and Points multipliers.

How to set up VIP tier rewards

Create or edit a VIP tier

  1. Navigate to Rewards β†’ VIP Tiers tab in the Growave admin panel.

  2. Click Add tier to create a new level, or select an existing tier to edit.

  3. Enter the Tier name and Description, and upload the Tier image or icon.

  4. Select the Milestone (e.g., Points earned, Amount spent) and the required value to achieve the tier.

Configure tier rewards and benefits

  1. Set up a Points multiplier (optional).

    The Points multiplier increases the rate at which members of that tier earn points (e.g., a 2x multiplier doubles the points earned for completing actions like Leave a review).

  2. Choose to Add tag to members of this tier (optional) if you want to automatically apply a specific Shopify tag to a customer's profile when they unlock this tier.

  3. Choose one Entry reward from the list. This is the reward automatically granted to a customer upon entering the tier:

    • Points: Assign a specific number of points. Users can later redeem these points according to your active Ways to redeem rules.

    • Discounts: Offer a Fixed amount, Percentage discount, or Free shipping.

    • Gift card: Provide a gift card value that can be used toward future orders. Learn how to use gift cards.

    • Free product: Choose any product to offer as a free reward. Learn how to use Free products.

    • No reward: Users will not receive an entry reward for reaching this tier.

⚠️ Important

When a Gift card is used as a VIP Tier entry reward, Growave does not send a standard "Tier unlocked" email. Instead, the standard Shopify Gift card notification is sent automatically to the customer with their gift card details.

Add perks and save

  1. Add custom Perks. These are text-based benefits (e.g., "Priority support" or "Early access to sales") displayed in the Rewards widgets to highlight the value of reaching a specific tier.

  2. Click Save to apply your changes.

If you want to configure how often customers receive entry rewards (e.g., only the first time they reach a tier vs. every time they achieve it), you will need to adjust your general VIP Tier settings. Learn how to configure VIP Tier rewarding frequency.

Recalculating tiers after changes

If you modify your VIP Tier settings, you must manually process the update.

Look for the notification banner on the VIP Tiers page and click the Start recalculation button. This ensures the new tier rules are correctly applied across your entire customer base.

⚠️ Important

If you change the VIP tier Entry reward to a different type (for example, from a Discount to a Free product), the system will prompt you to recalculate your VIP tiers. When this happens, the following rules apply to previously issued rewards:

  • Discounts, Gift cards, and Free products: Any previously assigned but unused rewards will be permanently canceled, and customers will no longer be able to use them.

  • Points: If the original Entry reward you issued was Points, those points will NOT be canceled or deducted.
