If you're transitioning to Growave's Rewards program or consolidating loyalty data from another app, you can use CSV files to import customer points, VIP tier statuses, and birthdays.
This guide walks you through:
Preparing your data
Uploading and validating your file
Selecting the right import type
Tracking or reverting past imports
Before you begin
⚠️ Important
CSV file size must not exceed 10 MB
You can provide either Email or Shopify Customer ID (
Email
is required unless you provideCustomer ID
)Customers must already exist in your Shopify customer list. Add them first if needed.
Step 1 – Download the CSV template
Go to your Growave admin → Import/Export → Rewards
Download the CSV template for Rewards
Open the file in Excel or Google Sheets
Fill in the relevant fields for Points, VIP tiers, or Birthdays
⚠️ Important
You can include all data types (points, VIP tiers, and birthdays) in your CSV file, but only one type can be imported at a time. To import another data type, use the same file and select the corresponding import type for each operation.
Step 2 – Understand CSV field requirements
Points import
Column | Required | Description |
| ✅ | Customer’s email address |
| Optional | Shopify Customer ID |
| ✅ | Points to add or set for the customer |
⚠️ Important
You can either:
Add points to the customer’s current balance.
Set their balance to a specific value. If you select this option, points will be either deducted from or added to each customer's current balance to reach the specified amount.
Balance changed notifications are not sent for bulk imports to avoid triggering spam filters.
VIP Tiers import
Column | Required | Description |
| ✅ | Customer’s email address |
| Optional | Shopify Customer ID |
| ✅ | Name of the VIP tier (case-sensitive; must already exist in Growave) |
✅ Tip
You can choose whether to reward customers during VIP tier import by selecting the relevant checkbox after setting up the VIP Tiers import type.
Birthdays import

Step 3 – Upload your file and choose import type
Go to Growave admin → Import/Export → Rewards.
Click Upload file and select your CSV.
Choose the import type:
Points
VIP Tiers
Birthdays
Click Next.
Use the same file again if you want to import a second or third data type.
Step 4 – Validate your file
Once uploaded, Growave will check your file for errors:
If everything is correct, you’ll see a success message.
If there are issues, you’ll be prompted to download a validation report and fix the errors.
📘 Validation tip
The error report includes a column explaining why each record failed.
Step 5 – Start and complete the import
Click Start import after successful validation.
If some records are invalid or skipped, Growave can still import valid entries. However, you can download a report to identify and fix the issues. You’ll see a summary of:
Imported records
Skipped/invalid rows
Reasons for skipped entries
After importing is completed, click Finish.
Step 6 – View import history or revert an import
In the Import/Export → Rewards section, scroll down to Import history to:
Track all past imports (with timestamps and results).
Download reports for skipped entries within a day of the import.
Click Revert import to undo the Points or VIP Tiers import. Birthday data import cannot be reverted.
Once confirmed, the import status changes to
Reverted
and cannot be clicked again.
⚠️ Important
Reverting an import removes data from:
Rewards admin activity logs
The storefront Rewards widget
How to find a customer ID
