How customers can redeem their points for rewards
In the Growave app, customers can earn loyalty points through various on-site actions and redeem them for valuable rewards. This guide will help you understand how to set up and manage different spending rules in Growave, ensuring your customers can take full advantage of their earned points.
IN THIS ARTICLE:
Types of spending rules
You can choose from five types of spending rules and enable the rewards that best suit your needs. Here are the available options:
- Amount discount
- Percentage off
- Free shipping
- Free product
- Gift card
You can configure these options by navigating to Rewards → Points in the Growave app.
Sales channel options
Sales channel options are available for Amount discount and Percentage off. Select the channel that best suits your needs, providing flexibility for rewarding options in both online and physical stores:
- Online Store — Discounts are available only in the Online Store. Online Store is selected by default for new shops.
- Shopify POS — Discounts are available only on Shopify POS.
- Both — Discounts are available in both sales channels.
NOTE: Shopify POS has some limitations. For example, it only supports Fixed discounts and ignores additional parameters like Minimum Purchase Amount, Discount Lifetime, and Specific Collections and Customer eligibility tags.
If "Both" is selected, only Fixed Discount will be available, while additional settings like Minimum Purchase Amount, Discount Lifetime, and Specific Collections will be ignored on Shopify POS but applied in the Online Store.
Amount discount
The "Amount discount" reward provides a fixed monetary discount on the total order cost. You can configure amount discounts with either a fixed or variable discount type. Here's how it works:
- Fixed discount: Set a specific number of points that customers must redeem to receive a fixed monetary amount off their order. This option provides a consistent discount amount for each redemption.
- Variable discount: This option allows customers to redeem a certain number of points for a defined monetary discount multiple times. For example, a shop owner can set a $1 discount to cost 100 points.
To prevent users from redeeming large discounts, such as $100 for 10,000 points, it's essential to set minimum and maximum redeemable values, thus balancing the redemption process and encouraging more frequent use of points.
Percentage off
The "Percentage off" reward provides a discount based on a percentage of the total order cost.
You can configure percentage discounts with either a fixed or variable discount type. Here's how it works:
- Fixed discount: Set a specific number of points that customers must redeem to receive a fixed percentage off their order. This option provides a consistent discount rate for each redemption.
- Variable discount: This option allows customers to redeem a certain number of points for a defined percentage discount multiple times. For example, a shop owner can set a 1% discount to cost 100 points.
NOTE: If minimum and maximum redeemable values are not set, users with many points could redeem significant discounts, such as a 100% discount for 10,000 points.
Make sure you carefully manage the points-to-discount ratio to avoid offering excessive discounts on high-value orders. Consider implementing minimum and maximum points limits to control the discount range effectively.
Free shipping
Let your customers redeem a "Free Shipping" discount for points they have earned through on-site activities. In brief, you can set up the following for the Free Shipping spending rule:
- Point value: Specify the number of points required to redeem free shipping.
- Minimum purchase amount: Define the minimum order value that must be met to qualify for free shipping.
- Maximum shipping rate: Set a cap on the shipping cost that will be covered by the discount.
- Eligible countries: Select the countries where free shipping can be applied.
Detailed instructions are available in this guide on setting up free shipping.
Free shipping rule is available starting from the Entry plan.
Free product
This feature enables customers to redeem a free product using their points. You can set up this reward as follows: define a discount title, click the "Browse" button to add the product, specify the points required for redemption, and set the discount value.

Gift card
Growave allows customers to exchange points for gift cards (available starting from the Growth plan). Customers can find gift cards and redeem them for points in the Rewards widget:
Growave will generate a gift card code that customers can copy and apply at checkout.

If customers don't have enough points to redeem a discount, they will see the "Earn" button which redirects them to the "How to earn points" section.
Additional settings
There are several additional settings available for Amount discount, Percentage off, and Free shipping discounts.
NOTE: Additional settings for the Free product discount are limited to customer tags, discount lifetime, and prefix. Gift card does not have any additional settings.
Allowed discount combinations
This feature lets you apply multiple types of discounts during checkout. You can combine different reward types with Order, Product, and Shipping discounts. Read more about discount combinations.
The discount combination feature is available in the Growave version V2 (V2 is set by default for users who joined Growave after January 22, 2024).
Making discounts available only to users with certain tags
Add the tag to the customer in Shopify's "Customers" section and the same tag in the Rewards settings. Only these customers will be able to use the discount.
Requiring a minimum purchase amount.
Customers must meet the minimum purchase amount set in the settings to use the discount.
Defining discount expiration in days
Set how many days the discount will be available.
NOTE: Redeemed discount codes will remain valid even if the spending rule is deleted or eligibility settings are altered. They will work according to the settings at the moment of redemption.
Add prefix to discount codes
Organize and track discount codes by adding prefixes. This helps manage and identify different promotions. All discounts will be generated with this prefix, for example, GW-KFKDPAKSMDLA
. You can use any prefix to better align with your brand.
Growave's spending rules allow you to create unique rewarding experiences for your customers. From percentage discounts and free shipping to gift cards and free products, these rules help you encourage customer engagement and loyalty. By configuring options such as minimum purchase amounts, discount combinations, and eligibility tags, you can further tailor these rewards to fit your business needs.
