Automate review requests: quick guide

The Reviews app can automatically send review request emails after a specified number of days or at an optimal time set by default. You can configure email templates and request timing in the ReviewsNotifications section.


Getting started

In the Growave admin panel, navigate to the ReviewsNotifications section. Here, you can enable the initial review request and two follow-up reminders:

In this section, you can also track notification performance for the last 30 days.

You can choose to enable or disable the reminders. If the initial review request is disabled, the two reminders will also be deactivated. Additionally, you can customize the notification intervals between each reminder. The campaign automatically stops sending consequent reminders once the customer submits a review.

Review request requirements

The Review request emails are sent if the following conditions are met:

  • The order is Fulfilled, Paid, or Delivered (depending on the status you select in ReviewsSettingsSend review requests based on order status:

  • The order was made through Shopify or its sales channels.
  • The customer has not left a review for the specific order or product.
  • The customer falls under conditions set in Email preferences for review requests. You can choose to send review requests to all customer, or only to those who opted in for marketing emails:

Change email templates

In the ReviewsNotifications section, click the review request email or reminder title to open the editor. Here you can set the notification period and change the review request template, including email language, banner image, subject, body, reward message, and button text:

Test review request email

You can check what the review request email looks like in the preview section or click the "Send test email" button and enter your email address to see the result:

Below is an example of a review request customers receive by email. It includes template text, up to five products with "Write a review" buttons, and a message detailing the rewards for leaving a review:

Important

  • For Omnisend and Attentive integration, review request templates will send emails with only the most expensive product from the order.
  • If you use Klaviyo integration with HTML templates (automatically added to the templates list upon initial integration), the review request email will include only the most expensive product from the customer's order. Use Hybrid templates with List or Grid layout options to send up to 5 products from the order in the review request.

Upon clicking the "Write a review" button, customers will be redirected to your website, where they can post a review in a pop-up window:

If a customer clicks through and reviews a product they have not reviewed yet, they’ll also be prompted to review the remaining items from that order:

This approach helps gather feedback on a broader range of products.

Set custom domain for email notifications

Feature availability

The Custom domain feature is available starting from the Growth plan.

In the Growave admin panel, navigate to SettingsGeneral to set the email address from which review requests will be sent. Remember to verify your email address; the verification letter will be in your mailbox.

Exclude customers from review request emails

If you have a customer who doesn't want to receive review request emails, or you simply don't want to send requests to certain customers, you can add the disable-growave-review-request tag to their profile.

Once you add the tag, please inform us so we can verify and adjust the settings on our end to ensure the user is excluded from receiving review request emails.

You can add the tag to a user from the Customers section in your Shopify admin:

Exclude products from review request emails

If you do not want to send review request emails for specific products, you can exclude them in the ReviewsSettingsGeneral tabCollect Reviews.

Also, add the same tag in the Shopify admin:

  • Go to Products.
  • Choose the product you want to exclude.
  • Add the exclusion tag under Tags in the Product organization sidebar.

Delay review requests for Shopify POS orders

If the order was placed through the Shopify POS app, Growave sends the review request 2 hours after the purchase by default.

Note

If you prefer not to use the accelerated review request sending for POS purchases, Growave offers a hidden setting to disable this feature. Our developers can adjust this setting for free from the back end. Contact us at support@growave.io or use the chat icon in the bottom-right corner.
