How to reward for past actions

Rewarding customers for their past actions is a great way to show appreciation and encourage continued engagement with your brand. In this quick guide, we'll walk you through the steps to retroactively reward customers for actions they’ve taken before you set up the Growave Rewards Program.

You'll be able to ensure your loyal customers receive the recognition they deserve for the following past actions:

  • Sign up
  • Place order and order-related actions
  • Leave review
  • Newsletter subscription

NOTE:

  1. Only the actions you've set up and activated in the Earn Points rules of your Rewards Program will be displayed in the Rewards For Past Actions tab.
  2. To reward customers for signing up using the Reward for Past Action, their customer account status must be "enabled," which means they need to have successfully activated their account through an invite link sent by Shopify to their email address. To manually invite existing customers to activate their accounts, go to the Customers section in your Shopify admin panel, select the customer's name, and click "Send account invite."

NOTE: If you change the Earn Points rules in your Rewards Program and decide to use the Reward for past actions feature, rewards will be recalculated only for Place order and order-related actions. Customers who performed other actions and already received rewards for them won't get any additional rewards, nor will the previous rewards be recalculated.

You can manage rewards for past actions by navigating to RewardsSettingsReward for past actions in the Growave admin panel:

On this page, you can view details about the number of customers and past actions performed within the period specified in the "Look-up history for" selector. By default, the look-up period is set to one month back from the current date.

Click the "Reward" buttons for the actions you want to reward your customers for. You will then see the following notification:

Rewarding past actions takes some time to process. Once completed, the actions and customers for the selected period will still be visible.

If you click the "Reward" button for that action again, a Rewarding in progress message will appear. Customers and actions already processed for the given period will not receive rewards again.

Information about customers who have been rewarded for past actions will be displayed on the storefront and in the Customers section of the Growave admin panel.

NOTE:

  1. If you use the VIP Tiers and set "Earn points" (view guide via the link) as a milestone to achieve a tier, the points awarded after activating the "Reward for past actions" feature won’t count towards the Tier. This means these points will not affect the Tier status.
  2. For the "Place Order" rule, the "Reward for past actions" feature will reward customers who have phone numbers but no email addresses.
