Integrating Growave with RevenueHunt Quiz Builder

Reward customers in Growave for completing a RevenueHunt product recommendation quiz using Shopify Flow and Growave's Customer metafield action.

Written by Simon Akhrameev

Overview

RevenueHunt Product Quiz Maker lets you build product recommendation quizzes that guide shoppers to the right products while collecting customer preferences and zero-party data.

By connecting RevenueHunt with Growave through Shopify Flow, you can automatically reward customers for completing a quiz. This gives shoppers an extra incentive to participate while helping your brand collect valuable customer data for personalization, segmentation, and targeted marketing.

Example use case

  • A cosmetics brand creates a skincare quiz asking about skin type, concerns, sensitivity, preferred product types, and routine goals.

  • When a customer completes the quiz, RevenueHunt triggers a Shopify Flow workflow that sets a customer metafield (e.g., custom.skin_type_set = true).

  • Growave detects this metafield update and automatically awards loyalty points or discounts for completing the skincare profile.

  • Your store captures actionable first-party data (e.g., whether the customer has dry, oily, combination, or sensitive skin) to personalize product recommendations, email campaigns, and loyalty offers, while the customer is rewarded for sharing their preferences.

Plan requirements

  • Growave: Growth plan or higher (required for the Customer metafield earning action).

  • Shopify: Any plan with access to Shopify Flow.

  • RevenueHunt Product Quiz Builder: Installed and active on your Shopify store.

How the integration works

RevenueHunt includes a native Quiz Completed trigger in Shopify Flow. When a shopper finishes your quiz:

  1. RevenueHunt pushes the lead to Shopify Customers and triggers the Quiz Completed event in Shopify Flow.

  2. Shopify Flow checks that the customer profile and email exist, optionally verifies the Quiz name (so the reward only applies to a specific quiz), and runs the Update customer metafield action to set a dedicated metafield (e.g., custom.skin_type_set = true).

  3. Growave monitors that customer metafield via the Customer metafield earning action and automatically issues the configured reward once the value matches.

💡 Tip: While RevenueHunt can also assign customer tags based on quiz answers, updating a dedicated customer metafield directly in Shopify Flow is simpler to set up and easier to maintain.

Step 1: Configure RevenueHunt quiz settings

Before building the workflow, make sure RevenueHunt is set up to create or update Shopify customer profiles when a quiz is completed. For full details, refer to RevenueHunt's guide on automating quiz completions with Shopify Flow.

  1. Add a required email question to your quiz: Open your quiz in the RevenueHunt app and include a required Email question.

⚠️ Important: Without an email address, RevenueHunt does not create the Shopify customer profile required for the Shopify Flow trigger. A phone number alone is not sufficient.

  2. Enable customer syncing to Shopify: In RevenueHunt, go to App Settings → Shopify Customers, turn on Enable pushing quiz leads to Shopify Customers, and click Save.

Step 2: Create a customer metafield definition in Shopify

Create a dedicated boolean (True or false) customer metafield in Shopify so Shopify Flow and Growave can reference it.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Metafields and metaobjects → Customers.

  2. Click Add definition.

  3. Enter a Name (for example, Skin type set) and verify the Namespace and key (for example, custom.skin_type_set).

  4. Click Select type and choose True or false (Boolean).

  5. Turn on Read and write access under Customer Account API so apps can read and update the metafield.

  6. Click Save.

Step 3: Set up the Customer metafield action in Growave

Configure Growave to issue a reward when the customer metafield is updated to true.

  1. In your Growave admin panel, go to Rewards → Points → Ways to earn.

  2. Click Add ways to earn and select Customer metafield.

  3. Configure the action details:

    • Reward type and value: Choose the reward you want to grant (such as Points, Discount, Fixed store credit, Free shipping, Free product, or Gift card) and specify the amount.

    • Customer metafield namespace and key: Enter the exact namespace and key from Step 2 (for example, custom.skin_type_set).

    • Set Metafield value type to Boolean, Metafield condition to Equals, and Metafield value to True.

    • Title: Enter the action name shown to customers (for example, Complete our Skincare Quiz).

  4. Click Save.

Step 4: Create the workflow in Shopify Flow

Connect RevenueHunt's quiz completion event to your customer metafield in Shopify Flow:

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Apps → Flow and click Create workflow.

  2. Select a trigger: Click Select a trigger, search for RevenueHunt, and select the Quiz Completed trigger (A customer completed a RevenueHunt quiz).

  3. Check that the customer exists:

    • Click Plus icon under the trigger → select Condition.

    • Set the condition to verify that the customer's Default email address (emailAddress) is not empty and exists.

  4. Filter by quiz name (optional):

    • If you have multiple quizzes and want to reward customers for completing a specific one, click Plus icon (under True) → select Condition.

    • Add a variable for Quiz completion → quizName, set the operator to Equal to, and enter your exact quiz title (for example, Find Your Skincare Routine).

⚠️ Important: Use Quiz name (quizName) rather than Quiz ID (quizId) in your condition. Using Quiz ID in Shopify Flow may trigger a validation error on RevenueHunt's side.

  5. Update the customer metafield:

    • Click Plus icon (under True) → select Action.

    • Select Shopify → Update customer metafield.

    • Select your metafield (custom.skin_type_set), set the Type to Boolean, and set the Value to True.

  6. Name your workflow (for example, Reward for taking a quiz) and click Turn on workflow in the top-right corner.

Testing the workflow

To verify that everything works as expected:

  1. Open your storefront and complete the quiz using a test email address.

  2. In your Shopify admin, open Customers and select the test customer profile. Confirm that the Skin type set metafield is set to True.

  3. In Growave admin, go to Rewards → Customers, open the test customer's profile, and verify that the reward was issued under their activity history.
