How to set up social login using Shopify Customer Accounts

Learn how to offer Google and Facebook social login natively through Shopify with new customer accounts.

As part of our ongoing commitment to security and compliance, Growave permanently discontinued its Social Login feature.

To continue offering social login to your shoppers, we strongly recommend upgrading to Shopify Customer Accounts. Shopify has deprecated legacy customer accounts and now natively supports Google and Facebook social sign-in, providing a more secure and seamless experience.

Upgrading to Shopify's native customer accounts provides several built-in advantages:

  • Passwordless login: Customers sign in securely with an email and a one-time 6-digit code.

  • Native social sign-in: Built-in support for Google, Facebook, and Shop Pay.

  • Reduced support tickets: No more password resets or locked-out customers.

  • Seamless integration: Automatically supports features like store credit and self-serve returns.


How to enable Shopify's social sign-in

To offer social login, you first need to ensure you have upgraded to the latest version of Shopify Customer Accounts.

  1. Navigate to your Shopify admin panel.

  2. Go to Settings and select Customer accounts.

  3. If you are still on the legacy system, click Upgrade in the banner at the top of the page. (For a detailed walkthrough, view Shopify's guide on upgrading customer accounts).

  4. Once upgraded, scroll down to the Authentication section and click Manage.

  5. Click Connect next to Google or Facebook.

  6. Follow Shopify's official setup instructions to configure your developer accounts and complete the connection:

You must have an active developer account with Google Cloud Console or Meta for Developers to connect these social platforms to your Shopify store.
