Rewarding customers with points for purchasing custom items in Shopify

Custom items allow you to represent additional costs or products not listed in your store’s inventory. You can add custom items to Shopify draft orders and in Shopify POS, giving customers more personalized purchase options.

When you create a draft order in Shopify and include custom items, customers can still earn points for their purchases under certain conditions.


Rewarding conditions for custom items

Customers can earn points for purchasing custom items if:

  • Product eligibility is disabled in Rewards → Settings → Rewards availability → Specify products eligibility: Customers will earn points for their custom item purchases.
  • Specific products are excluded from the Rewards program using tags in Rewards → Settings → Rewards availability → Specify products eligibility → Forbid for products with listed tags: Customers will still earn points for custom items because custom items are not tagged.

If certain products are allowed to participate in the Rewards program using inclusion tags in Rewards availabilitySpecify products eligibilityAllow for products with listed tags, customers will not receive points for custom items, as they do not have these tags.

How to add custom items to draft orders

To add a custom item to a draft order:

  1. Go to the Orders section in your Shopify admin.
  2. Select Drafts.
  3. Click Create draft order.
  4. Choose Add custom item.
