Overview

This article explains how the Points program handles orders placed in different currencies. In a multi-currency store, points are always issued based on your storeโ€™s base currency. This ensures consistency regardless of the currency the customer uses at checkout.

How currency conversion works

When a customer shops in a currency other than your store's default, the process follows these steps:

  1. Order placement: The customer places an order in their local currency (e.g., EUR, GBP, JPY).

  2. Conversion: Shopify automatically converts the order total into your store's base currency using current market exchange rates.

  3. Calculation: Shopify sends the converted amount to Growave.

  4. Issuance: Growave calculates and issues points based on the converted amount and your specific Place order rule and Rewards program settings.

๐Ÿ“˜ Note

Growave does not determine exchange rates. The conversion rate is controlled by Shopify's market settings.

Example calculation

Here is an example of how points are determined for an international order.

  • Store base currency: JPY (Japanese Yen)

  • Earning rule: 1 Point per 1 JPY spent

  • Exchange rate: 1 USD = 144.8 JPY (determined on the Shopify side)

If a customer places an order for 5 USD:

  1. Shopify converts the 5 USD to JPY (5 x 144.8 = 724 JPY).

  2. Growave receives the data that the order value is 724 JPY.

  3. Based on the earning rule, the customer receives 724 Points.
